Diploma in Nautical Science (DNS)

Diploma in Nautical Science (DNS) is a professional pre-sea training program approved by the Directorate General of Shipping (DG Shipping), for students who wish to build a career as Deck Officers in the Merchant Navy. The course focuses on developing strong fundamentals in navigation, ship stability, cargo handling, maritime safety, seamanship, and bridge operations.

DNS combines theoretical classroom instruction with practical maritime training, ensuring students are well-prepared for real-life onboard responsibilities. Once completing the DNS pre-sea training, candidates join ships as Deck Cadets, where they undergo 18 months sea-time and onboard training. This pathway allows them to progress through competency examinations and get promoted to higher ranks such as Third Officer, Second Officer, Chief Mate, and eventually Captain.

This course is ideal for students seeking a globally recognized, adventurous, and well-paying career after 12th PCM, offering long-term growth in the international shipping industry.

Why Opt for a Nautical Science Diploma?

DNS provides a direct and structured pathway into the Deck Department, preparing candidates for navigation, ship operations, safety management, and decision-making at sea.

One of the biggest advantages of DNS is this course is globally recognized, allowing officers to work with international shipping companies in different types of vessels. The course also offers faster career progression compared to many shore-based professions, along with attractive salary packages, tax benefits, and worldwide travel.

DNS not only equips students with technical maritime knowledge but also builds discipline, leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving skills, which are essential for life at sea. For students passionate about sailing, responsibility, and global careers, DNS serves as a powerful foundation for long-term success in the marine industry.
